Silent Noon
Durational performance and installation. Materials: Wild chervil, ceramic cups, plantdies textiles.
"Neath billowing skies that scatter and amass.
All round our nest, far as the eye can pass,
Are golden kingcup-fields with silver edge, where the cow-parsley skirts the hawthorn hedge. 'Tis visible silence, still as the hour-glass.
-Dante Gabriel Rossetti, (1828-1882)
Silent Noon is a performative work created by artists Amalia Fonfara and Hannah Mjølsness /Nine Herbs Charm (NO/US). The work consists of a performative installation that gives room for a sensual and animistic relationship with a native plant, Wild Chervil (Anthriscus Sylvestris) from the local landscape in Norway. Based on tea ceremonies from different cultures and shamanic techniques, the artists explore how we can get in touch with the plant. The work seeks to enable a meeting between visitors and the plant, creating an experience with the plant that exceeds linguistic communication.
The artists give performative servings of the plant Wild Chervil tea, in an installation consisting of materials that reflect the plant's properties. Wild Chervil is a historically native medicine plant that grows throughout Norway and much of Europe. Today, Wild Chervil is most commonly considered a weed.
Artistic contributors: Textile by Kim Kvello, Sound design by Ambient Light, Sound improvisation by Suzana Westaway.
